Can we change the scheduling calendar a teensy weensy bit ?

Hey Hey.

I just finished scheduling the next 8 game sessions for my group into January and February and I have to tell you, it's a pain in the keester.

I mean, for a simple one off session, sure, go through all the rig-a-murall but our sessions are always on Monday nights (Hence the name "Monday Night Heroes") at 19:00 EST and go for 4 hours.

I think, overall, this is usually the way sessions are planned for most campaigns, there is usually a preferred time\day slot for the game to occur. So with this being said, wouldn't it be better if there was an auto scheduling widget added for our sessions ?

Sorta like instead of specifying each date individually, wouldn't it be nicer to be able, as a GM, to say

Every Monday, 7:00 PM EST, 4 HOURS, For ever

and then have the web site automatically set up the schedule?

Or maybe get to specify the months for the schedule to occur, so I could say Every Monday @ 7:00 PM EST, 4 Hours on Jan, Feb, March, April and May

And then I could go in May and set up any further times when the dates approach.

I love the Calendar on this site, I just think it may need a little more love to make it perfect.

Thanks

This suggestion has a lot of merit. Recurring sessions has been a pain in my side for a long time now. However, automatically scheduling new sessions might be an interesting idea. I'll have to think through how to implement that. Thanks for the suggestion!

I've been using a site called Doodle lately which lets you create a "poll" to have people vote on what days work best to get together. I'm all for setting up recurring sessions but it perhaps we can incorporate some similar functionality in the calendar as well?

I like that idea. I may have to steal it :P

I like this a lot. Maybe have the DM set how far in advance a recurring session pops up?

One small detail is what the session name would be. Perhaps just "Recurring Session?" Or add an advancing number (Roman numerals would be a nice touch) to the end of it?

I don't mind setting each week so much, but I can see the use in this. I remember the yahoo calendar does this. You just select recurring event and select a date as to when it ends and either the days of week, weekly, semi-weekly, monthly or something like that. It doesn't necessarily have to generate all those events right away, but perhaps keep it generated for a month or 2. That'll keep down on posting unnecessary events.

I'd like this as well.

If you can't find any open-source code for re-occuring scheduling, how about a "Duplicate this event" button, in the meanwhile?

Duplicate -
  • Opens a popup dialog similar to the loot's "split" dialog; Selections are "1 week, 2 weeks, days: (text box)".
  • Generates a new event, bypassing the "new calendar event" page.
  • Event values default to the same as the currently selected event, but with the date field pushed forward by the indicated amount.

  • Or at least have the new event dialog default the fields to the values last used.

Agreed! Hopefully, I'll have a chance to make at least some of these simple changes soon.
