Was reading a discussion on ENWorld about a now-defunct site that let you create a custom calendar for your game world. You could do things like enter the number of months, number of days per month, length of year, etc.

Anyway, I bring it up because it would be a neat addition to Epic Words.

p.s. miss playing with you guys :(

I found an example of what I'm talking about...

Sam! :-)
Saw your name on the Forum posts and had to see what you wrote. Neat calendar. Now I just have to figure out how I get my boss to adopt these 2 day work weeks I just thought up...

p.s. miss you at the table too.
p.p.s. I'm GM'ing my first game session tomorrow. Dresden Files demo!

sorry for the off topic interruption. and now we return to your regularly scheduled programming.

Hi Beckie,
Dresden Files? I'm jealous. I rather enjoyed the books and it would definitely make for a fun game.

When you figure out how to adopt those 2 day work weeks, let me know. I could definitely use that info. LOL

@James... yeah, it's a pretty cool gizmo, but the one I linked to above is apparently not as good as the one from the now defunct site (http://www.irony.com). That one had stuff for phases of the moon, tides, etc. Probably more than most people need, but it would make a very cool addition to Epic Words.

I had started making one for my home brew world -- the only issue, and this is where I am ot has a great a programmer as I'd like, is that most 'time' calculating tools are all set to real world clocks/calenders/seconds.

I also realize I was possibly over thinking the problem.... Forgotten realms just did 30 days in every month. which would be easy. Here is WotC's Tool.

But if you were trying to do something like our calendar, where SUNDAY March 6th 2011 is then TUESDAY March 6th 2012 (i.e. days of the week do not sync up from year to year) or their are leap years (note that the Egyptians had 5 leaps years 0_o in their calendar).

Would be awesome if something could be developed, worlds have Holidays and 'anniversaries of events', and something that you could track that with could really help create a robust campaign.

I agree that this would be really cool! It would take some thinking, though. Even a simple version would take me a while to put together, though.
Oh, and it's great to hear from you again, Sam!

It hit me that a 'timeline' feature would be easier to implement/design. User adds in a 'start' and 'end' number then just puts in what unit of time they're using (could be anything, years, month, days, hours, it's just text)

Then user can just mark off events on the timeline by number of units. Throw in the ability to link to sub-timelines and you have a full calender. Puts all the customization work in the hands of the user. This is the timeline I'm working with now... using a wiki, and it's none to pretty.

This is a simple example of something free on the web...

I'm in contact with the irony.com guy. I'm trying to see if he'll release his code. If so, I'll forward it to you. Maybe it can give you something to work from... or maybe it will make you cry because it's ugly code. Who knows... LOL

That's a neat idea, Brendan. It would be a nice first step toward a full calendar... and it might be enough for most people.
