Almost 200 years ago, when the land that was to become Nirmathas was still a vassal of the empire of Cheliax, the northern reaches of the Fangwood were a wild and untamed place. The crusades that laid low the Whispering Tyrant to the north were a distant memory, and those who remained were intent upon keeping the orcs of Belkzen and the remaining undead from Ustalav in check. As a result, the great forest was full of danger, from marauding orcs to deadly predators, making it unsafe for merchants hoping to trade with the growing community of Skelt in the foothills of the Mindspin Mountains to the west.

Ekat Kassen was a crusader and fortune seeker who came to serve Lastwall in the year 4515 AR (Absalom Reckoning). While he fought with distinction, he soon realized that he wanted more from life and left the Lastwall military to find his fortune elsewhere. His travels took him all over the region around Lake Encarthan, and he decided to settle down in 4522 after a very profitable adventure. Using a sizable portion of his fortune, he set out to tame a small area of the Fangwood on the banks of the Tourondel River, making it a natural stopover for those traveling up and down the river to Skelt.

It is now 4708 AR. The world has changed from Ekat Kassen's day, but the town remains. Kassen is a small town ruled by Mayor Uptal, a fair, but mildly grim man. While most of the “townsfolk” actually live in small homes or camps in the woods and fields surrounding Kassen proper, the town is quite tightknit. As with most of the folk in Nirmathas, they stand up for one another and refuse to be pushed around.

In war and in everyday life, Nirmathi are fiercely independent. They are a people who define themselves largely by opposition to their regimented and bureaucratic former masters in Cheliax and Molthune. There is great generosity and charity of spirit in Nirmathas, but everything is mediated by the ideals of freedom, self-sufficiency, and liberty above all else. Even the best ideas are ignored or rejected if there is even the faintest hint of compulsion. To infringe upon individual rights and freedoms is to invite blood feud. The partisans of Nirmathas have learned well how to survive. Whether they can succeed in forming a nation remains to be seen.

From this humble frontier area, largely unaware of the happenings in the wider world, new heroes may be forged in the trials of their time. Will their story be told 200 years from today? Time will tell.

Tonight's dinner: Sushi.
We're in the ruined archives listening to Rofellos read from a tablet and I start to notice something fishy going on with Roshin and Rofellos. Their features are changing to look much like those fishy people we saw. I wonder what they ate...

They discovered some shiny crown in the ruins. Widget called it a Crown of Blasting and they came over to me and said I should have it. I'm not certain that I should take gifts from fishy people... but I accept and wonder how much damage I can do with this thing.

We leave the archives and decide to follow the road and climb up to the next level of the plateau. Midna seems to struggle with the climb, but after a few good jumps, she makes it. When we reach the top we can see pools of water or something all around that appear to have a metalic sheen to them. The whole area is in ruins. Off in the distance we spot a dome shaped building that seems to be in tact. Also off to the east stands a tower, and after a few moments we notice movement up top. I wonder who is up there?...

As we scope out the immediate area we see a pyramid shaped building in the center, it appears to be where all the roads meet and spiral away from. Its about 30 ft tall and it's walls are cracked and crumbling. Just behind it is yet another building, but more in tact. We search around for signs of life. Small creatures have come through, such as woodland rodents and gulls, but no footprints. We head over to investigate these shiny pools of water. There are seven in all, perfectly circular, and they look like they were deliberately put there. As we get closer we can see that they are dark moats of some thick silvery liquid. Oh gods... and the SMELL! Rotting corpses lay around the pools. We count about 20 decaying bodies in all, and the gulls are having a meal of them. Strangely enough, I must point out that the bodies of these people look exactly like how Roshin and Rofellos appear- slightly fishy.

Widget wanders over to a pool with a stick and starts prodding it. The liquid silver clings to the stick like honey... but then slowly slips off. I wonder what these are for?

Off to the side is a crumbed pedestal which has writing all over it. Copper plates like the ones we saw at the archives are laying in the weeds near a marker. The small inscription says "Place copper record, recite name, put hand in pool to receive lecture." Hmmm. I'm not volunteering for that.

Well, we have three tablets to choose from. I'm sure all are very riveting.

"Aulus- observant councilor. His speech on solar calculation. Lecture 3 of 6."

"Ossoryol- master of lenses and optics. Masters final lecture on celestial alignment."

"Erinthander- grand provos of spheres and glyphs. His platform on solar sigals and wards. lesson 2 of 3."

I catch Widget out of the corner of my eye picking through the rotting bodies. Really?! How nasty. He shouts out that they seem to have been beaten to death and walks over to pick up the Lenses and optics tablet. But before anyone can stop him, he puts it on the pedestal and plunges his hand into the pool! A glob of quicksilver pops up and takes human form. It starts to speak about the Orrey, (which sounds something like a giant astro lab) how to use the lenses to predict movements of planets, and how it effects the magic of the island we are on. The man/glob rambles on for an hour or more about some mechanical device that tells you how to operate the Orrey. Widget is completely engrossed and is taking notes.

At the end of the lecture the image starts to distort and the glob flops back to the surface of the pool. Without warning it springs up again and lunges for Widget!

Rofellos instantly starts shooting of magic missiles. The glob lashes out to try to slap Widget but misses. Widget pulls his crossbow and the bold pierces it! A lot of good that did... it only sliced it in two! The more we slashed it, the more it multiplies. Midna tries to bite at it but ends up suffering from acid damage. I try my hand at using this shiny crown. It blasts all crazy like and misses completely. I think this damn thing is broken. Lovely.

Kahmal finally takes one out with a lightning bolt. When I try to punch one, the glob tries to latch on. Kahmal's lightning seems to be doing the trick. Everything else just makes it multiply. After many rounds the glob melts back to the pools and is silent.

Kahmal makes his rounds healing everyone. The consensus is that the pools are energized by souls and the people were being fed to the pools to keep them working. It may not have been fed properly, thus why it attacked us. Roshin scratches his head at the thought, and pulls away a hand full of hair. All of his flowing dark hair is falling out! Then his eyes start to shift toward the outside of his head! I look to Kahmal, and he is crying tears of black blood! We can't get it to stop! It tries to wipe them away but to no avail. These two don't look so good. They say they feel fine though...

Widget says he wants to try another tablet. I cuff him upside the head and point to the bodies. THAT would be a very bad idea.

We decide to head over to the pyramid shaped building. There is a large archway on either side and aquaducts lead away from the building. Broken lenses float above our heads. They look like they were used to light the inside of the pyramid at one time. As we start walking around to the west side, Widget scampers off by himself to the east and tries to hide. Sigh. One day I'm going to bury that little fucker.

Pillars soar high in front of the steps leading into the pyramid. It looks like we can easily find a way in. But where is Widget? Why must he always take off on his own like this. Doesn't he know that it always gets him into trouble? Kahmal suggests that we get Widget a leash, but no one wants to be the one to keep track of him. I think he has a death wish. Perhaps he is in need of therapy? Maybe his mother didn't love him....

My mind wanders as we climb the steps of pyramid. If we wanted, I bet we could climb all the way to the top!

Oh, there is Widget. He comes hauling ass around the west side of building, blabbing on about how he saw 10 fish people heading this way.. and he thinks they are looking for someone. Well no shit! They probably spotted you! I look to Kahmal and his eyes are still dripping black goo. Widget leans in close to me and whispers that he thinks the rest of our group will turn aggressive on us... just like those fish people he saw heading this way and carrying tridents.

Tridents? Oh this isn't good. We all rush into the pyramid to take cover. Inside it looks like it's a indoor swimming pool, or a bath house of sorts. Roshin states that he has the overwhelming desire to strip down and take a dip. A naked fishy Roshin? No thanks. Things are getting weird...

The stagnant water in the pool as dwindled into nothing but mud. The place looks rather open, and those fish people will be able to see us easily.

We hear one of the fishy people scream out something in their native language, Skumm. He raised his trident when he sees Midna. Rofellos reacts with a web spell and two of the skum people get grappled in the web. One tries to break free. Without even finding out what these people wanted, everyone starts attacking. Brutes, the whole lot of them! These natives could have answered some of our questions!

Well, apparently we aren't liked much. I tried to say hello but all he tried to do was eat me! I whacked him sternly on the head. I just wanted to knock him out but alas, I don't know my own strength. I smashed his head in. Oops. Widget was able to know one unconscious, so hopefully I can question him later. Roshin starts in on one guy and bashes in his skull. It was messy. When I look again, they have me surrounded! They all started poking at me with their tridents. I am NOT DINNER! They all started getting very violent. I ninja kicked the one in front of me in the throat and killed the one who pierced me with is trident. Now they have made me mad!

I take a step back for a breather and Kahmal rushes up to heal me. Thank the gods for that! We see Roshin having a good time bashing in skulls one right after another. He shouts out "It's sushi for dinner tonight! HA HA HA!!!" Rofellos steps in and takes out yet another one.

After I gained more strength I took down another and left him for questioning. One of these fishy fuckers will answer for all these holes in my new cloak!

Out of no where, Widget breaks into song!

" Scum of the Sea , you not like me!
You're 5'3" to my 3'3"!
I inspire as you're put to Fire,
Die you bum , as I shoot a bolt
Kamahl smiles, casting a Lightning Bolt,
You fish are hooked, and now your cooked!

DINNER! "

Midna is making a lunch of these fish men. She's chomping off heads and limbs!
After the bloodbath, we search the bodies and come up empty. A few tridents and old tattered clothes. We have two alive for questioning... but they are out cold. The question is do we heal them enough to wake them now, or wait until awake on their own. Either that or we can just spear them now with their own tridents. Grrr... I hate waiting.

We walk outside to look around. There's a crumbling tower ahead and the top has broken off...which is floating and spinning around. It's sorta wobbly in its tight orbit near the top of the tower. We also see a crystaline dome surrounded by courtyards. I bet that's the observatory we heard about in the lecture earlier. Just past that we can see where the roads seem to have sunk. We peer over and see that there is an opening from the canal to a cave underneath the island. Skum people are down there making slaves dig trenches. Widget says "Hey look at me!" and shows us that he is growing webs between his fingers and toes. Kahmal's eyes have stopped bleeding, but have turned an eery solid black color. He says he believes he can see in the dark better. Widget says that he must be able to swim better like this...

Now I'm the only one who is not changing into a fishy person. These guys are starting to make me nervous. They say its probably brought on by the magic of the island...and they don't seem too upset by their new freakish changes. They actually seems pretty excited. What the heck is going on here!

There is a steep staircase leading down the cliff where the Skum and slaves are. Near the entrance of the cave are a couple of willow wisps lighting the way in. Kahmal keeps squinting and complaining about how bright the light is outside. We count about 60 villagers/slaves and 20 plus guards below. Behind us, Widget quietly kills the two unconscious fish people we were going to question. It looks like the townspeople don't seem to care that they are slaves. They are acting more like zombies. But before we take on this fight and enter the cave, we decide it best to head over to the observatory first and check that out. Maybe we can find some information in there that will help us change everyone back. They are starting to act a little weird and I'm afraid that if this gets any worse, I'm going to be lunch! I give them all a sideways glance and slow my pace so that I'm following just behind the group. I have a very bad feeling about this. Widget's webby little hands are seriously creepy. :::shudder::::

Nal-kashel
Abadius 12th Moonday

With a quick search of the abandoned shacks in town, we find one with a sturdy door to spend the night in. Widget polishes off the liquor he found on the docks before settling in for the night.

In the morning we head to Gerlach’s house. Like most of the houses near the shore the foundation is cracked and the house is shifted to one side. A search of the perimeter turns up no evidence worthwhile. In fact there are no tracks whatsoever, leading me to believe no one has been here in quite some time. Widget takes the lead and heads inside to investigate. The inside is basically one large alchemy laboratory. We find a glass tank with a dead homunculus in it. We search for about an hour and cannot find anything of importance. The only useful things we find are 2 scrolls of comprehend language.

We leave to find Estian and begin the ride out to Nel-kashel. He tells us the trip should take about 2 hours. After what feels like an hour we begin to see the weed choked ruins of the island. The island itself is tiered and we can make out ruined buildings on each level. Most amazingly, there are floating towers circling the island! They seem to be floating in a random patter with no discernable center or plane of travel. In fact, some even dip into the water on their path around the island. As we recover from the initial shock we notice that we have rowed over a rather large bloom of jellyfish. Kahlan notices that Estian has gotten a blank look, almost like he is listening to something. Without warning he begins rocking the boat violently! Roshin, Widget, and Midna are thrown overboard. Kahlan, Kamahl, and I are able to overpower him but he dives into the water and disappears before we can subdue or question him. We spend a few minutes and help the others back into the boat and out of the jellyfish infested waters. No major damage just a lot of stings easily healed with a few cure spells.

We continue to the island and find the only accessible landing area is the wedding rock cove. The wedding rock itself seems to be humming? When we approach it we all begin to feel sick. Kamahl seems to be affected the worst and vomits violently. I try to detect magic on the rock itself and am stunned by the sheer amount of magic present. The whole island radiates a strong transmutation arua that seems to be omnipresent. While I’m sure there is an enchantment on the wedding rock I cannot even begin to discern what it is with the overwhelming aura of the island clouding my senses.

With nothing else to search we climb to the first tier of the island. All of the building have domed roofs but are in such a state of decay that we cannot even tell what type of district this once was. We follow what looks to be a road made from shells. Lining it are Witchins that seem to grow right out of the ground and are holding glowing lights. We make our way to the next cliff and climb up to the next tier.

In the distance we can see a large crystalline structure surrounded by floating golden orbs. Widget immediately starts heading towards it but gets ambushed by 2 swarms of crabs. It takes a minute but Kamahl and I finish them off with spells. We continue on and investigate the building. It appears to be a library of sorts or maybe a record hall. Strangely all the information within is contained on floating brass plates. While searching around we get attacked by large beetle like creature! They only seem interested in Roshin and me though, rushing past Widget and Kahlan heading directly toward us. It quickly becomes apparent why. They are rust monsters! Roshin and I are the only two wearing metal armor. Roshin is able to kill them fast enough that they don’t have enough time to corrode his armor or hammer. Being forced to fight with a sword is not my strong suit though and the one I’m fighting manages to hit my armor and it immediately rusts becoming brittle. With help from the others I kill it but the damage has been done.

After the fight we search around the library. All the writing is in Agian so we use a scroll of comprehend languages to decipher them. The rust monsters seem to have gotten to a large portion of the plates though. The information we gather is broken and confusing. There are references to the growth of the city through learning. A secret society and a failed coup attempt. We find experimental notes on human and fish hybrids being set up by an outside control? Among the books we also find a Crown of Blasting.

When I get done reading I get some startled stares from my companions. They tell me my eyes are beginning to bulge, my nose has flattened, and my lips are starting to crack and dry. Roshin seems to be experiencing the same thing. Great! As if having my armor broken wasn’t bad enough now I seem to be affected some ancient curse! We haven't been here all that long but I'm really begining to hate this place.

Blackcove & Tentacles
Abadius 11th Sunday The New Year 4710

As we leave the ship, Gellious leaves us with these parting words:

When you hit the shore you'll be between Corentyn to the east and Macini to the west. This is a pretty remote area and I don't think you'll see patrols, but Corentyn is a large city with a militaristic history. It prevented invasion from Garund when the Arch of Aroden was still whole. As a precaution, I'd chop a few good holes in the boat and push it back out into the sea after you land. There is a large forest called the Anferita a few miles inland. If you head due north, you'll see it to the west. I'd recommend traveling due north until you see the foothills of the Eismonts and then angle west and look for a place to ford the Maiestas River. If you get too close to the coast, you're going to end up crossing a bunch of small tributaries in its flood plain. Once across the river, continue due north until the coastline of the Hellmouth Gulf cuts in to meet you. If you follow the coast from there, you should find this town you mentioned. I'd guess the total distance at around 300 miles.

Fare well friends.

We listen to Gellious’ advice and knock a few holes in the boat and sink it, before heading north. It takes about five days and we reach the foothills of the Eismonts. Angling west we cross the Maiestas and reach the coast on the Abadius 20. We continue following the coastline north. The coast varies dramatically from a simple beach to 30+ foot cliffs. It is quite beautiful.

Huge rocks dot the coastline – it is obvious why no ships would attempt to land nearby.

On the 21st a fog rolls in as we hear a yell as a fisherman fights against a giant crab with a single oar. We rush to fight the crabs as Kamahl comments, “Why is Widna always so much more prepared than I?”

Rofellos rapidly fires two arrows striking the crab nearest the fisherman. Kahlan and I run to help the fisherman. The fisherman throws a rope toward me as Rofellos continues to fire arrows, striking at will.

Midna runs back and forth and can’t decide if she wants to get in the water or not. Kahlan unleashes some monk crab pounding, but the crab continues to live!! Kamahl’s crab appears and attacks one of his brethren.

Kamahl moves and kills two of the crabs with a well timed burning hand. Widget’s summoned octopus appears to attach while he moves to cure the fisherman.

Widget yells out to the octopus in some kind of gibberish and then the octopus inks the water. I yell out that we should all leave the water and I back up. The others join me on the beach as the remaining two crabs move back to sea.

Adler is the fisherman’s name. He was out searching for help for Blackcove. There are creatures from the deep – shambling things – that are taking people off into the waves at night. They took his wife. There are not many left in the village, most have moved on. Adler’s wife was taken two days ago. At least a dozen have been taken in the last year. He says that the villagers gave him a wet cloth containing a gold hair-comb shaped like a manta and offers it to us if we can help him.

He does know that there are a few Smith’s left in town – a Janice Smith and her husband is in town. He agrees to take us up the coast road as it will be safer than traveling along the shore. It will take about two days to reach Blackcove.

We arrived at the Blackcove on the 24th.

It is rainy and cold – just miserable. As we approach the town from the south we get a better picture. The town looks almost completely abandoned. Several buildings are collapsed, others have roofs missing, and the waves have pushed the sand into many of the buildings to the north.

With the creatures taking people from the village, Adler refuses to enter. Rofellos and Widget fight briefly over the gold hair-comb. Widget trying to keep the comb for himself while Rofellos desiring to return the comb to the townfolk.

As we move into the town we call out, “Hello”, “Is anyone there?”, “We’ve come to help!” We catch furtive glances in windows, but no one responds. As we look out into the bay, we see several ships that appear to be manned. In addition, a man of appears to be standing on the pier and dives into the water.

While walking on the pier I bust through a rotted plank and take some damage as a piece of wood cuts my leg. Kamahl quickly heals the wound and we continue to investigate the town.

Widget checks out a small shack where the diver appeared near the water’s edge.

Several tracks are found in the sand. Rofellos determines that the clawed prints came from a bi-pedal creature that dragged something into the water.

We hear a sound from a nearby house and move in to investigate. Sand blocks the door from the inside, but after forcing the door open we see the house is infested with crabs. A small shrine sits in the corner of the abandoned structure.

Kahlan indicates that the shrine is to the gods of the sea in an effort to appease their fickle and dangerous nature.

We head west to the temple set on top of the cliffs above village. We meet Lyra, the village pastor. She says that a town meeting will be held in a couple of hours at the lighthouse and that we can go there now and meet Gervus.

Lyra says that only some 40 remain in the village. Asking about the person we saw earlier, Lyra is clearly hiding something when she says the fisherman are “good swimmers.” We suspect the diver was a gillman.

Nicolaius is the constable and is organizing the meeting. We question why the meeting is occurring at the lighthouse (near the water) instead of the temple. Lyra indicates that this is all Nicolaius’ plan. A turned over keel boat is washed up on the shore as we near the lighthouse. A hermit, named Bartock, (looking less “gillman” than the others we’ve seen before) is organizing his goods. He says that he’s seen the creatures that have taken the townsfolk and describes them as fishmen – walking fish.

He states that the creatures are taking the “water gift’s from our veins.”

Having at least an hour before the meeting, we head to the shrine to look around. It appears to be a “handmade” relatively primitive shrine. At one time the temple appeared to be to Asmodeus but has since been remade in obvious tribute to marine deities.

The murals appear to be a form of ancestor worship referencing the cycle of life. With the life coming from the sea.

As it becomes darker, the arcane red light of the light house rotates and shines out miles into the sea.

As we enter the lighthouse it is clear that the meeting will be conducted on the 2nd floor as pools of water gather on the first. During high tide the bottom floor most likely fills at least partially from the sea.

Most of the townsfolk appear to possess some of the traits of gillman. They appear to be quite run down and sick – most likely from too many years living in isolation.

Gervus is most interesting constable – his choice of words is quite unique. For example, “We’ve congealed ourselves in the lighthouse for the past three days” as well as “There is an injestation of sharks.”

Spend a couple of hours and learn the following:

  • Several have been worried about getting help from us
  • The wedding rocks should not be judged by outsiders
  • Nal-kashel is the source of the attacks
  • Adler could have found somebody more local
  • The attacks began after Gerlach started exploring Nal-kashel. He never said what he found. There are dangerous creatures in the ruins there.
  • Gerlach visited the island several times.
  • Gerlach must be dead as he has not been seen several weeks ago. Nobody saw him leave or be taken.
  • We should not go to Nal-kashel and make things worse
  • The building that looks like it is coming off its rock foundation is Gerlach’s
  • Gerlach blames the wedding rock as the sickness on the town
  • Children conceived on the wedding night are “blessed by the sea” but must eventually return to the sea
  • Gillman’s time on land is limited as they are more comfortable in the sea
  • We observe villagers with all of the “signs” of gillman – webbed fingers, webbed toes, gills, etc.
  • Gerlach is a gillman as well as a talented sorcerer and alchemist
  • He made several potions to help the villagers
  • Gerlach was naturally very curious and did not seem to spend as much time in the sea as other gillmen
  • What he found on Nal-kashel made him mad
  • Gerlach claimed he was “setting things right” on the island
  • The wedding rock is on Nal-kashel
  • Nal-kashel was an Azlanti outpost
  • The villagers are descendants from Azlanti
  • The gillman were the first to disappear when the attacks began to occur
  • Several claim that relatives have been watching from the sea while the attacks occur

Looking below it appears that the water is higher than it has ever been. There are no water marks on the wall, so it appears that the water is higher than it has ever been. Rofellos sets an alarm on the first floor. Almost immediately, the alarm goes off as a tentacle shoots out Rofellos the water at Rofellos.

Kamahl sees a tentacle reach out and snatch the hermit from the beach and drag him under the water. Kalan bludgeons a tentacle with several rapid strikes causing it to retract into the water. A tentacle strikes a villager and beings to constrict. Another village is struck and slammed into a wall.

I smash two tentacles that are holding villagers – destroying one and causing the other to retreat.

The water continues to rise now nearing ten feet deep.

Like Kamahl, Widget is able to summon creatures to help as three dolphins appear in the water diving around the swirling tentacles and attack the creature.

Interestingly the creature does not appear to be causing damage when it squeezes someone – it only snatches and attempts to take them away.

This creature is huge -- tentacles encircle the outside of the lighthouse shaking the building, breaking windows and knocking me and several villagers to the ground. As I try to get up, one strikes at me but misses. I stand and with a roar deliver a tremendous blow severing the tentacle the remaining tentacle in the building shutters and withdraws as the water begins to lower.

As we assess the damage, a fisherman named Estian agrees to take us out Nal-kashel. We need to find out what his causing these attacks, and Nal-kashel seem to be the key. Before we leave, though we need to investigate Gerlach’s home.

7th Cathona

Today is the Fairy Dragon Festival. The fairy dragons are migrating for the winter, and have made it from the forest to the docks of Korvosa. These small flying dragons are about the size of a house cat with brilliantly colored wings. For the most part the dragons leave the villagers alone, unless they see an opportunity to steal a bit of food from them. Over by the academy villagers gather around to watch the fairy dragons chase, and kill the imps the students summoned. The dragons are small but working in packs look very dangerous especially to the imps. Everyone’s having a good time when we hear a scream come from a near by alley.

We rush toward the alley where we heard the screams and find 3 creatures emerge from the sewers. They turn out to be Otyughs grey skinned creatures with long tentacles. Unfortunately most of us don’t have armor or weapons. That doesn’t slow Kahlan down though she quickly takes the fight out of one of the Otyughs with a few hard hits. Rofellos entangles one with web and relays a message from a city guard not to kill them. I was a little confused at this, but it didn’t stop Widget from using his Ring of the Ram to slam one of them into a nearby building. At this point we start to hear cheers from the near by villagers. The guards that begin to arrive are carrying blunted spears and pole arms. The closest city guard calls out “You know how this is going to end; you might as well go back down there”. The otyugh actually answers back in a rough deep voice “just looking for something to eat you all get to enjoy the party cant we at least have some garbage”. Widget tosses one of them a sandwich; it says thanks as the guards herd the otyughs back down into the sewer.

The guard tells us that the otyughs eat the garbage from the town. They live in the sewers all over Korvosa without them they would have a huge waste problem. Roshin asked if the guards have had many problems with them coming up and hurting anyone. The guard said that the otyughs come up about once a week but no one has been really hurt. Every once in a while we have to put one of them down to keep them in order. The guard thanks us for the help and for not killing any of them. Hooray we helped negotiate the waste management strike now we can enjoy the rest of the festival. Some of the villagers even buy us a round for the show we put on.

I tell everyone that I would like to go see the giant turtle under the Posh & Turtle pub. Everyone agrees to come with, which is probably a good thing because who knows what kind of trouble I might have gotten into with out them. Along the way I tell them that I would like to talk to the turtle and see if he would rather be free. One sight we pass on the way is the Avenue of Arms. There are 127 stone human arms reaching up out of the ground. Some arms are female but most are male. All of the hands face away from the shore and are 2ft 3in apart. Some of them still hold iron weapons. Widget detects magic on them but can’t tell what could have done this. We head into the Posh & Turtle.

The pub looks a lot like most a bar in the back some tables & chairs here and there and a glass floor with a few grates so you can see and feed the 20ft wide giant sea turtle that has grown to large to leave the cave below. You know the usual. Everyone heads to the bar to talk with the owner Thavin. Rofellos asks about the stone arms out side. Thavin says that no one is really sure how they got that way. They were there when the Chelish settlers came here. Students and professors from the Academy of Magic come by everyone and a while to try and figure it out but to no avail. Everyone keeps Thavin talking while I prepare the spell that will allow me to talk to the Giant turtle whose name turns out to be Tom.

Casting the spell draws some attention from some of the patrons Widget tells people I am sick which draws enough attantion to get Thavin to start heading toward me. Before he gets to me I ask Tom the turtle if he is happy in the cave. Tom’s first response is “Yes free food”. Then I ask if he would want to leave the cave. Tom said “30 years I haven’t seen a female in over 30 years”. I took that as a yes to. I tell Tom that if I make it so he can get out he might not be able to get back in which means no more free food. He thinks about it for a second and simply says “Thirty Years” uh huh…

At this point Thavin makes it over to me and asks what I am doing. I explain that I was talking to Tom and that he “misses the ladies”. I tell Thavin that I was planning on freeing Tom the turtle. Thavin didn’t seem too happy about that. He tells us that Tom has been here since he started running the place and brings in a lot of customers. We ask Thavin if we can make it so Tom can come and go as he pleases if that would be alright with him. Thavin says that’s still kind of a gamble for future business what if he dosent come back. I lean down and ask Tom if he would come back if he could. Tom says “Free Food”. I tell Thavin that I am pretty sure Tom will come back. Someone suggested talking to the Druids in town to see if they can find out if there is a female giant turtle in the area or if they could call one to the area. We tell Thavin that we will try to work something out.

I go around to the docks to see what the entrance to Toms cave looks like. When I am getting close to the water someone on the docks tells me to watch out for the Jigsaw sharks. I thank him, but luckily I can see the entrance without going into the water. The cave looks like it is about 10 ft too narrow for Tom to get out. When I get back to the bar I tell everyone how much wider the cave needs to be, and that I know a spell that would move the stone. Roshin says that we should have someone look at the cave to see if it will support the weight above it if I move all of that stone. Widget suggests the dwarfs at the armory, if anyone is an expert on tunneling it would be them. So we all head off to see the dwarfs except Widget who says he is going to try and drum up some business for the Posh and Turtle. Make a long story short Thorrin the dwarf comes back to the Posh and Turtle to have a look at the cave. He says that the stone will be plenty strong to hold the weight. After we ask, Thorrin says that he will come back to supervise when I am ready to move the stone for 100gp which included what he wanted just to look at the cave. Once we found out that we could safely widen the cave we head over to the druids. When we arrived we explain the situation with Tom the turtle. The druid at the counter said that he would talk with his mentor to see what he could do. He said he should know the next day. Toward the end of the day we hear people in the streets singing songs about Tom the turtle. When we find Widget he sings the whole song that he wrote:

Oh, Tom, Tom the Turtle.
Was a pleasant sight to see.
He ate so much and now he’s stuck,
in a cave and not the sea.
Thavin agrees out for he
to romp a lady or two.
He will return before the morn,
but don’t look out to sea.
For if you dee, you shall see
Tom the Turtle porn.

9th Cathona

In the morning we headed over to talk to the druids. They said that they talked with Tritons in the area who can find a mate for Tom. The Tritons will also tell Tom where to find her once he is free. We went to tell Thavin the good news. Out side of the bar there was a crowd of “druids” (more like hippies) protesting to free Tom. When we talked to Thavin he was worried about what the people outside would do if we couldn’t free Tom. For a second I thought about making the roots below there feet turn into thorns that would have gotten rid of the “druids”, but Widget went outside to try to get them to come in and buy drinks. I guess that works too. Someone mentioned people being able to get in to the bar at night thru the cave if Tom wasn’t in there. So we headed back to the dwarfs to see if they could build a gate that would let Tom in and out, but not anyone else. Luckily this free Tom the turtle thing was getting a lot of attention or else we might have had to fund the whole gate. Thorrin was willing to provide the labor hoping to get his armory more attention, but we still had to pay 1000gp for material. We talked to Thavin about releasing Tom the next day. He said ok but he wanted to be open so he could sell food & drinks.

10th Cathona

The day started off good got our armor and weapons before we went to free Tom. We headed over to the Posh and Turtle wearing our new or improved gear. There was already a crowd gathered to see tom off. Thavin took us down to the mouth of the cave. Thorrin was down there with some other dwarfs talking about the gate. I started preparing my stone spell and once I finished Thorrin showed my where to widen the cave to make it easier to install the gate. When the opening was wide enough I shaped “Kassens Hero’s” into the stone above Tom’s cave. After a few moments Tom made his way out to sea (Bow Chicka Bow Wow). Back inside the Posh and turtle Thavin seems happy with how everything worked out. People were already making bets on when Tom would return and if he would return alone. After things settle down I thank everyone for their help. I know I couldn’t have done it with out them.

11th Cathona

Since there was nothing anyone really wanted or needed to do we met our contact at Leftovers. Leftovers was more of an inn than a bar. When we walked in the bar keep waved us over he only had one arm. He asked what he could get us we ask about a meal and some ale. It costs us 3silver a piece. There is a guy in the corner looking at us eventually he comes over and asks us if we are looking for someone. We say Gellious and he says hes my captain so we show him the note from Tolgrith. He looks quickly at it and says meet my at the docks west of here after sun down. I’ll have a row boat waiting. Kahlan asks him his name he apologizes and says his name is Skells. He sayshe’ll be looking for us and to make sure we have our things ready to go we’ll be leaving when the tide goes out. I tell him about Midna so he is not freaked out when she shows up with us. We headed back to get ready to leave.

We got Midna and our things down to the dock with out rented horse and wagon. We started getting our things on the row boat while Kahlan and Rofellos return the horse and wagon. It’s a tight fit on the small boat but we manage. Skells has us row the boat toward Gellious’s ship. After a couple hours of rowing we make it to the ship. It is a cargo ship, but its not to big to fit into the river above Old Korvosa. Some of the crew helped us load our things on to the ship. We all introduced ourselves to Gelious he asked if he had to worry about Midna eating any of the crew. I told him he didn’t have to worry about it. He takes us below deck to go over how he is going to drop us off. He said the trip will take about a month (1500 miles). He thinks that he can get us within about 10 miles of the shore just south of Black Cove. After he drops us off were going to be on our own rowing from there. We head back up and Gellious gets us on our way.

Once we were out of view of Korvosa Gellious put up a Cheliax flag. He said it’s the best way to avoid the Cheliax army. We started to get to know the crew and they begin to relax around Midna a bit. Some of the days were cold but it got a little warmer as we neared the Black Cove. About 20 days into the trip the last day of the year (Cathona 31), the look out notices a ship. Gellious looks through his spyglass, and sees that it is an Abendago Pirate vessel. He said that is the problem with the Cheliax flag the pirates like to raid Cheliax cargo ships. He said that we could not out run them even if we started dumping cargo. It sounded to me that everyone would rather avoid a fight on open water if possible. I waited until the Abendago pirates were close enough and I summoned a hale storm above there ship. Each piece of hale was the size of fists, and it destroyed the deck and tore apart their sails. We didn’t have to worry about them catching up to us any time soon. Gellious was relieved that he didn’t have to risk his ship in a fight with the pirates.

Abadius 11th Sunday The New Year 4710

The rest of the trip was uneventful. We cut around Wolfs Tooth Isle, and thru the Arch of Aroden, and finally reach our drop off point. Gelious was able to get us a little closer to land than he originally thought. We said our thanks and goodbyes to Gelious, and the crew, and headed for land.

Epic!
The Mischievous Minx that is Korvosa
Starday,Neth the 1st, 4709

It was a brisk cold day, when we departed the fort.
Korvosa here we come!
Saying farewell to Tolgrith for all his help, we set off in search of his friend Jeggere, the sailing whelp.

The journey the first 5 days goes as planned as we head south, uneventfully.
However on the 5th of Neth a caravan is spotted consisting of tents, and wagons gathered in a protected circle.

As we approach, the kids we saw playing all head back to their camp.
We are approached by their Leader Christopherous.
They appear to be Varaseans, a fact I only seem to know!, a group of traveling gypsies and merchants, that explains the bright clothing yep.

What is known of them is that there may be a underground crime family amoung them, no one knows who or what they deal in but one thing, the spice from a Thilea tree. No one sees the deals go down though, many think they hide it well with their dancing and entertainment.

We are introduced to their elder Alinza, who talks about the "Lost Omens" Roshin noticing she is a fortune teller asks for a reading about us. 10 gold says I'm the Wildcard!
She agrees to tell it after we have dinner with them, they began to play music after, knowing the song, I join in with my harmonica!
"The Ale House Jig"

After our dinner, our reading is told , we ask one question: Was adventuring our correct path in life and do we continue?
We are all given cards for Alinza to read which amazingly delves into our own personalities. I got the "The Twins" the one of 2 minds. I still think I need the "Wildcard", "Hey Lady! sigh... Nevermind."

Everyone seems content with their card, though Rofellos's card is one of Betrayal, not sure I like this...

After it is done I ask Alinza, hoping to get an individual reading, and wanting more time with Alinza's daughter, who was also with us!

She tells me something about an avalanche and that of a good choice in my future may reside with my friendship with Kamahl and Roshin, nothing of the bleaching!
Confused I leave on the brink of having another drink.
The rest of the night passes.

Neth the 6th

We wake up and began to break camp. As we do a mounted patrol rides on up, the leader dismounting. We quickly notice the warhorses and heavy armor adorned on them all.
Looking like "Hell Knights" of the "Order of the Nail", they approach the Varaseans, ignoring us and began insulting the revered elder Alinza, looking for a fight.
The travelers provide none, he looks at our group then mounts up. He and his men ride off.
With a snicker I watch them ride off satisfied.
After the encounter Christopherous comes by and asks us to deliver some of the Thalian spice to a man named Fhilo with the city, seeing as they are heading north. We are to meet him at a place called the "Traveling Man" Tavern in old Korvosa. He tells us not to open the package and that 1lb. goes for 60 gp.

A s we travel closer to the city we see more and more people heading in the same direction. Asking us us if the road north is clear. I gladly muscle flex for them and say"Yeah we did it, what you do!"
Vexed and confused we leave them behind, Hahaha.

We arrive at the city gates on another cool day, "Winters coming".
Today Moonday, Neth the 10th

Realizing that we cannot get Midna into the city the way we like , Kahlan or Roshin Mandarn decide to split us up. I know it wasn't my decision cause I got paired with Rofellos Timberdeemoon!

We are told to find a inn and a wagon of sorts for Midna to travel in. I told Kamahl I'd just ride her in but No!!! He wouldn't let me...It's not like I haven't before.

We enter the city and take note of the Shuanti and Chelaxian influences in architecture, seeing the temple and newly built castle.
We find 3 rooms at the "3 Rings Tavern" in the Northpointe District. It is ran by Theandra Darklight. We didn't really look too hard for a better deal, I tried to barter but the bloody elf dragged me away! I told him 5 gp is 5 gp! in savings but , man I need to hang out more with Roshin, he'd get it. The only good thing was the free breakfast and the animal corral.Kamahl better like this.

Meanwhile as this was going down, Kahlan and the others were still at the gates paying the taxes. Wonder if they paid for all of us or just them, I think I would, he he.Less peeps means less tax for me!
They , I guess had to register a party name! Why didn't they come and get me!!! I already had one! Who doesn't like the "Kassan's Drakonian Death Slayers"! It scares me.
I guess the went with "Kassan's Heroes", it's alright, but how can we be heroes of a town we're not in?

Anywho, the others also sold off there horses and my prized pony! which paid for the horse for our wagon. Meeting all up there after we set off to the "3 Rings Tavern" to relax.

Neth the 11th.

Waking was easy enough but man today's a good day! Off to get new gear!We settle on going to the "Adventuring Exchange" we complie a list of what everyone wants or needs and see what is available. The new boots I'll got are sweet! So fast they'll freak!

Happy with our shopping, we decide to go and drop off our Thilea spice to Fhilo in the "Traveling Man Inn"

Out of the corner of my eye down the market streets I spy a female gnome! Hey she winked at me! Widget's gonna get some! Wait...
What the hell? She just swiped Roshin's coin purse! That's my job! I have dibs on all my friends stuff! I'll teach her!

"Hey Roshin Mandarn" I say, "That girl gnome just took your money!"
Without another word I run off after her in pursuit! I'll show you not to mess with Widgetgobbledegook!
I chase over and under tables carts and wagons. I start to see the others realize whats up and some of them pass me, damn these little legs! The gnome climbs the wall and jumps onto the roof seeing us in chase, she drops the purse, and still we chase.Kahlan and Kamahl "The Air master" flank her and stop her in her tracks. Kamahl whirlwinds the thief, she drops her dagger, the others catch up and drag her away. Without the slightest thought I pick up my new dagger and put it away for safe keeping! Thats what I thought bitch!

The other find out that "Tita" is her name,Roshin offers to let her go and offers her 10 gp, to help her out, "sigh" sometimes I wonder anout him, ever the peacemaker. Smoking my pipe I begin the climb down.
Once we all gather back on the street we do set off to see Fhilo and deliver our spice unopened. We mention the set offer of 60gp, he seems unhappy with it, bartering down to 58 gp and a round of drinks, thanks to me! Everyone's Happy! While drinking Fhilo tells us of the plague and the tales of the queen. She died. The Senechal is currently leading the city. Offering to us the information of the city we needed. He mentions how the Surrealean Society and their blue capped collectors work throughout the streets.

Kamahl asks about the animal trade and learns of the unrest that there is among druids in the city. He is told the check out the"Posh and Turtle" where a giant turtle is trapped within a cave.

After hearing of the rumors of the city we depart. Knowing that on Kathuna the 10th., the rest of our gear will be ready for our meeting with Jeggere.
