Dreams of Saint Cuthbert's Will
Fear not Kilkennard!

It is Saint Cuthbert's will that Talltrees dwells with us no longer. For I have had a dream of soul grinding punishment!

At first I saw the robe of green brocade, that of the finest quality, that the man wore. It had embroidery of the finest variety, tall growing oaks and pines, even the mythical redwoods of Nyrond and the Pale. He was attended to by the most beautiful women, also dressed in fine robes, of pleasant silk.

Well, you can imagine my surprise when I noticed it was the office of the Abbey in Verbobonc. Of course, I was also shocked when the figure turned around. It was Talltrees! That ungrateful punk has been given my academic appointment at the Women's Divinities College!!

I am crushed. How can this have happened? Where is the justice? Oh the humanity. Saint Cuthbert I beg and pray, help your loyal servant understand, How can this have happened? I am your loyal servant! Why me?!

Testimony of Abandonment
True Believers!

Hark!
I have failed Cuthbert.
Talltrees is not prosthelytized.
And as Talltrees abandoned this league,
Cuthbert, abandon me,
Abandon thy sword,
Find another soul worthy of thee.
As Talltrees became lost,
did I.

Chosen Tools of Crushing Redemption
Oh Saint Cuthbert, I abase myself in gratitude as your witness in your choosing of our party as the Chosen Tools of Your Crushing Redemption in the matter of Bernard's Undeath!

The glorious mighty fists and feet of our very own Monk Xiao crushed the sinners and deniers of mortality. The skillful dodge and magical hellfire smite of Meneleus did stall the assault of evil at a most critical moment, even providing a crucial recovery meal of horse at the same time. The flashing blades of Kilkennard, Noss, Paige and Benny did splatter the ghouls and foul undead king into the peace of death for the former and certain damnation for the latter. The profound justice and righteousness in destroying their wickedness can only be seen as measure of your glory and brilliance!

We beseech thee with our pitiful voices, they had it coming Saint Cuthbert, and your wrath brought accountability for their sins. We are grateful!

Amen.

Prayers to St. Cuthbert
Oh Saint Cuthbert, your loyal servant abases himself in humility! Why me, oh merciful and just beyond comprehension Saint Cuthbert!

The mud. The painful ambush by at least a dozen dark servants of evil chaos with two giant armored skeletons. The dark mausoleum with the stench of death. The zombies killed our horses and servant and drank our beer, leaving me with nothing but a single flask of strong liquor. They are cruel and evil without shame and beyond redemption.

Save us Saint Cuthbert I beseech you! I am tasked with keeping, "NO reverse, only forward charge Kelkennard the Paladin," alive while the wizard Meneleus says, "The Bird Did it!" Benny is starting to make more sense than the wizard. I am in the cuckoo's nest!

My academic appointment is slipping away as I speak and I think some of these cuts are going to leave scars. All I wanted to do was save the Duchy. Now, I hope that we'll make it home at all.

The Diary of Meneleus and The Crow
The Monk and the Cleric are looking at me threateningly, so I'll keep this journal short.

I may or may not have accidentally blasted the entire party with a massive fireball that killed most of the horses and drained me of my strength. All that I will say is that THE BIRD DID IT. We killed several monsters, where I finished them off with said fireball. We followed the bird to dry ground, where we found an "abandoned" mausoleum. As night fell, we began to see strange lights coming from the it. Suddenly we were attacked by two giant skeleton monsters. The birds says that inside the mausoleum we will find magic and riches beyond our wildest dreams. I believe him.

No Common Sense. None.
For today's sermon I would normally quote chapter and verse from the Book of Common Sense, the wise words of St. Cuthbert, but I have come to the conclusion that if the flock is too foolish to understand then I would be wasting my time. Therefore I will not waste my breath and I will use words that they will understand. You Ungrateful Punks!

Is it ever a good idea to cast a Fireball on your own party, including the healer? When it is time for the healer to sleep and rest, do we rush forward into danger? When the aforementioned healer is hoping to head back to Verbobonc and finagle a cushy academic appointment, do we charge straight into our enemies' ambush and put him at risk? Deep in your hearts you know the answer. St. Cuthbert is waiting alongside his coterie of beautiful administrative functionaries with his cudgel. There will be painful penance, for those who abuse his favored servants. Remember pain is sin leaving the body! There will be a horn of plenty of it, too, for such a deserving lot.

Now I know the tears you shed as you laugh are nothing more than tears of joy as you revel in St. Cuthbert's glory. Believe and you shall be free to join him in the glorious glow of justice as he smites the wicked fools who persist in denying the wisdom of common sense.

Amen!

You Ungrateful Punks!
Why with the blessings of Saint Cuthbert I have had a vision that I am in his favor and have been granted an additional Spell from his bounty. I am grateful.

Of course, I have had to march through swampy water, endure leeches of the most horrid variety, clouds of annoying insects and fight off a gigantic crocodile. Thank goodness for the lance training of Kilkennard. Forgive me, but if the old man thinks his son hasn't mastered the lance, he is quite mistaken. One charge, dead as a door nail. There was also that pair of two headed giants, too.

I keep thinking there must be a way to get back to a cushy academic appointment back in Verbobonc, with clean clothing, fine vestments and women, and wine to enjoy. The ladies certainly like a man of the cloth in plate mail. However, I will need to see our mission through. That boy has enthusiasm for battle that clearly stands between me and my appointment. I guess it might just be a form of penance. Sigh.

Testimony of Honor
True Believers!

I commune this to you from the comforts of the castle in fair Verbobonc, having spent the last months vanquishing the vile Slavers that absconded with my beloved sister. The tale is long and I'll save you the indignities of the exploits here. Suffice it to say, the loyal league fell to their knees before Cuthbert for guidance, faith, and fortitude. For we lost it all before we overcame the evil.

I am worried of Meneleus for without his magic book, he wanders lost. I must return him to his master Burne in neighbouring Hommlet. It is the same worry of despair I wandered in whilst stripped of my station.

But victory belonged to good. Hallelujah!

Testimony of Diminishment
True Believers!

I say this in great haste, as our mission to find the slavers drags on. I have come to some understanding about this great blessed sword, while its once unending powers seems limitless, I see them now begin to falter. And it bases not on keeping the beast sated.

As we pondered how to retrieve the fair armor, sword, and crystal shard buried deeply in the jelly, I was consumed with a desire above others, forgive me Cuthbert, to acquire said armor, in hopes it could replace my own, squarely lost to the poison pit.

At great risk to Meneleus, I sent him out to fetch what I could not. Peril was with him and he nearly perished hooking the suit. And once I had to on my person, Holy Sword of Consumption overtook it. Saying "Yum!" and the suit was gone.

Now the sword bites shallower and draws a thinner stream of blood. What next diminishment awaits thee?

The Jellies were slain after near all were paralyzed. And Meneleus talks gibberish about floating stars round his head.

Dark moments are here. The Slavers await.

Testimony of Admittance
True Believers!

It wasn't long before we were approached in a dark alley by a nefarious sort. A shawled night urchin, more adept at assassination than befriending by the dour look of him. He called, 'I know of Kennus!"

Holy Sword of Consumption leapt to my hand and was at the poor sod's throat before he next swallowed. Cuthbert's chapeaux delved into his mind and found the truth. He words rang true, he was Eustace, a thieving scout working for the Lance Battalion. He was sent months prior to secure passes inside the gate. Which he produced.

He left first, lest he give away his disguise, and one by one, we entered the vile city of the slavers. Talltrees the Druid was accosted at once by a beggar, who himself claimed knowledge of the Lance Battalion and bayed us seek out the Ivory Paladin.

We wandered through the darkening town, the druid and Noss taking notice of building this and that. When we came upon the White Knight Inn. For a heavy sack of gold I secured us the information we sought - an entrance to the catacombs below us, an approach to the slavers we need to slay.

The thief proved useful a second time, picking a window lock to gain entry. Talltrees the Druid discovered the hidden trap door and down we went. Ten twenty thirty forty feet in the dark only Cuthbert's glow to light our way. The thief scouted at the glow's edge and upon entering a chamber, a voice halted us.

But parley we did not, and a vicious battle began - none knows how it shall end.

Testimony of Continuation
True Believers!

After rousing the Cleric of Knowledge and passing last rites over Ulcah of the Plains, I ventured forth into the inky cloud in search of the vile illusionist's throne.

Even in the pitch, I was able to find the chair, and promptly sat in its clutch, banging and tweaking and pressing for buttons. Anything to open an escape hatch. At long last I managed to wrench a panel from the rear. And groping in the dark recess laid my hands upon that which felt a key and scroll.

Exiting the black, I handed the scroll to the monk and bid him do what he will before Holy Sword of Consumption took the matter. Alas it was a map, to the very city we search for! The key fit a hidden lock and our exit was before us.

We slept at last as babes. But on my watch I heard a fair maiden's call. I tipped quietly ahead and was greeted not by a girl, but by an evil beast. Luck be on my side and it's death came quick.

Talltrees the Druid panthered and after half an hour we pursued. After miles of directionless wandering in the tunnel, we emerged on a volcanic hillside before an enormous city gate.

Our approach was in vain, for even in offering a bribe of nearly 100 gold, we were refused entry. Now back to the slums to hire an urchin to snag us these elusive passes.

Testimony of Bereavement
True Believers!

Do not fall into debilitating sadness, for Ulcah of the Plains has returned to the peace of his peoples. May he always be remembered, as he stalks his happy hunting grounds forevermore.

His death was not in vain, for he has saved all our lives. We stumbled into a wooden room with a strange door. The Cleric of Knowing smashed it with his mace and tripped a dozen spikes into his chest. But luckily he healed himself with Cuthbert's Grace.

Beyond, lay the true trap: a shelled ground walker from another era, and a room filled with gnollls. The Cleric pondered illusion as he fled with Noss, grabbing my arm as if to drag with away with his fear. Easily I loosed myself, and engaged the melee. And Ulcah did not waver in resolve. Suddenly a figure of evil godlike quality, raised his hands against the Cleric and he fell in fear.

The battle raged without him. I struck and struck but the opponents disappeared before my eyes. But their damage was real and Ulcah was felled.

Talltrees turned bear and chased the leader into the darkness and I know not what lies in that ink.

I bend a knee and pray for speed for Ulcah of the Plains, and quietly listen to the echo of the Cleric of Knowing's precipitous ponder of "illusion" before it bore out...He is not what he seems.
