Beginning of Session
Dwarven Shrine(?)
Afternoon, Fourmonth 4, 30

I was so happy to see the group I sent out to scout below Underweep was in one piece. I must admit that I was starting to worry about them, and the account of their pursuit by the goblins and xivort didn't make me feel any better.

Apparently, they successfully barred the door to the Dwarven structure and were able to retreat back to the cave they encountered the spiders in which they effected a rest and contacted me to let me know what was up. I, of course, told them to get back as fast as they could and promptly attempted to get Pof'Gra and the other guards together to go help them - although that took longer than I hoped.

Meanwhile, they were intercepted on their way back by a weapon the Xivort's referred to as "The Roller" - a magically animated ballista on wheels. Fortunately, after a difficult battle, they defeated it and the other xivorts who were accompanying it and we met up with them to escort them back to underweep.

Retreat!
Beginning of Session
Goblin Village Entrance
Afternoon, Fourmonth 4, 30

Pursuing the remaining goblin who had been hanging out by the fire, the party notices several rocks and pillars carved with goblin letters. They also find who the fleeing goblin had been yelling two as a pair of hidden snipers begin taking shots at them.

Still thinking they can take out the goblins, they press on and the defensive forces of the goblins make themselves known. Powerful archers, cutthroats, and an acolyte attack. A Xivort also appears, showing curiosity about the party's presence.

Hearing more reinforcements coming, the party decides that discretion is the better part of valor and expends its resources in beating a hasty retreat from the goblin defenders. They make it back to the Dwarven structure where they catch their breath and plan their next move.

At the gates of the goblin village
Beginning of Session
Former Dwarven shrine? repurposed for goblins
Afternoon, Fourmonth 4, 30

The party interrogates its Xivort prisoner to find out just what the heck they are doing there. They decide to do this in common rather than the Xivort's apparently native Elven tongue because they want to keep up their intimidating air. From him, they learn four things:
  • The Xivort were coming to get the goblins who didn't want them there.
  • The Xivort don't really care about Underweep at this point and are having more fun playing with the goblins.
  • The goblin village lies beyond the underground structure they are in.
  • The Xivort have been providing supplies to the goblins in exchange for the Xivorts getting to play with the goblins.

During the interrogation, Estelwen finds a wand on the body of the Xivort spellcaster. As the interrogation finishes up, the Xivort gladly agrees to show them where treasure is in exchange for his life. While Hode believes he means that, everyone knows not to trust him too far. And when he points out the wand Estelwen has picked up as the treasure and smiles proudly, he pouts and kicks the ground when Dokhra indicates this was not what they had in mind. Shortly before executing him.

The party continues through the Dwarven structure, discovering a Dwarven symbol of industry and a ritual pool of water and a sliding bronze door, but without discovering the purpose of it all.

Through the back, they are once again surrounded by more naturally cut caves until 100 feet later they come upon a light source. Sneaking up upon it, Waghaus discovers it is a small fire that two goblins are conversing around. Dr. Brav also sneaks up to overhear the following conversion,

"Odd that the Xivorts aren't back yet."

"Maybe Retrac's group ambushed them."

"I wonder how they found out about Retrac and the rest."

"I'm sure someone snitched on them. I know a few goblins who would rat them out."

"Yeah..."

The party decided to attempt to capture and interrogate these two to find out what was going on. However, the first two arrows loosed at the goblins missed and alerted them to the attack. One immediately ran back yelling, "Invaders!" and was answered by two more shouts. The party pursued...

Those aren't goblins!
Beginning of Session
Caves below Underweep
Noon, Fourmonth 4, 30
Level 1

Although the party (and Dokhra especially) suffers a lot of poision coursing through its veins, they overcome the family of spiders and investigate their lair. In their nest, they find evidence of the various creatures the spiders have fed upon, including several small humanoids. Searching through the bone pile, they find a statuette made of precious metals. This 8-inch figuring is of a humanoid figure with webbed hands and feet and tentacles for its face - definitely an aberration from the Far Realms.

Continuing on the path, the party finds the natural caves give way to cut stone and see light coming from a cut room ahead. At the entrance to the room is a circular motto in Dwarven saying, "Strength - Industry - Valor".

Inside, the room is empty though it hasn't been for too long. There are several bedrolls and evidence of meals having being eaten there not long ago. Plus, of course, the torches are still burning. There are also several bags that seemed to contain traveling supplies though they are now mostly empty. Searching through the bags reveals a piece of stone with Dwarven writing chiseled into it - apparently a journal someone had written. What could be made out on it said,

"We must move on from our home. We will leave the alternate entrance open just in case we ever return."

As the party was searching the room, the heard a commotion coming from the other entryway - a closed doorway. It sounded like a half dozen or so people, and they seemed to be speaking in Elven. The party sets up Estelwen to lure them into the room and for her Elvenness. When the group enters the room, Estelwen recognizes them as Xivort - short, blue-skinned humanoids from the Feywild. Hoping they were not hostile (despite openly carrying weapons), she spoke to them in elven. Their response was to spit at her and call her a "foul traitorous primedweller" and attack.

Estelwen proved her use as a distraction and pin-cushion as well as able warrior and despite the tricks of the Xivorts, the party quickly overwhelmed them. The last Xivort was intimidated into surrendering and now cowers at their feet.

Tracking down the goblins
Beginning of Session
Underweep
Morning, Fourmonth 4, 30
Level 1

The party is all set to interrogate their goblin prisoner when Pof'Gra and the town guard arrive just too late for the big fight. Pof'Gra is bemused but happy the group routed the goblins and plans to take the goblin into his custody to prepare for a public hanging to boost the town's morale. Some swift words from Dr. Brav convince Pof'Gra that some vital information could be gained from an interrogation and Pof'Gra sits by while the party tries it.

They learn that his name is Kotra, that the goblins were raiding them to get supplies they needed, that there are somewhere around 100 of them, and get an inconclusive response when asked about their leadership.

The party then want to set off after the goblins to gather more intelligence on them, taking their prisoner to help him lead their way. Pof'Gra is having none of it as he is skeptical the party will make it back alive, let alone with a goblin who could easily betray them. The timely arrival of Mornlorr and more smooth words from Dr. Brav bring Pof'Gra somewhat around - he still thinks it's way to dangerous to let the goblin go with them (and doesn't want to lose the morale boost that a public hanging would provide) but can see that the group should be careful enough to make it back.

Mornlorr has been waiting for an opportunity to put a group together to do reconnaissance missions and sees that potential in the party. He outfits them with some magical supplies he has and sends them on their way, warning them not to get in too far over their heads.

From their information interrogating Kotra and their ability to track and understand dungeon layout, the party feels it gets most of the way to where the goblins live before running into corridor densely packed with spider webs. Dokhra advises caution, but Waghaus, not detecting any danger ahead, thinks it best to run through. He disturbs some webbing that falls from the ceiling onto him and two hungry spiders and their spawn set upon the party.
